SS05: HEARING AND COMMUNICATION
Tuesday 23rd / 08:00 am / Room Tenerife
As our society is becoming more and more communication oriented and people live longer, hearing problems are an important problem that may cause economic and social exclusion. Early detection of problems by hearing screening, followed by effective diagnostics and rehabilitation will be of high importance for the future development of the European Union.
This session focuses on a number of results from the EU FP6 funded HearCom project. The talks will relate to telephone and Internet based hearing screening for Europe, multilingual speech diagnostics, the concept and implementation of an Auditory Profile, the benefit of signal processing strategies and the use of wireless communication devices in the public domain.
