SS01: NOISE REDUCTION IN HEARINGS AIDS AND ITS EVALUATION

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN FM TECHNOLOGY

Hans Mülder

Phonak, Switzerland.

A recently developed new FM platform, Dynamic FM, combines traditional analogue FM radio waves with sub audio digital control signals, inductive two way communication between receivers and transmitter, and a digital 2.4 GHz wireless network technology between transmitters. By making use of new algorithms, the behavior of the FM system has become adaptive: the FM advantage is no longer a fixed value, but depends on the ambient noise level. The result is a significant improvement of the signal to noise ratio beyond that of traditional FM systems. An outline of the new platform and its main features, including sound samples, will be presented.
